Looking for fun ways to integrate Halloween into your kindergarten or homeschooling lessons? Halloween Math is a fantastic way to engage young learners while practicing essential skills like addition 1-10, counting 1-10, and writing numbers 1-10. This is my #1 TOP Favorite Halloween activity for kindergarten – it keeps kids moving, learning, and having a blast!
Why Halloween Math is Perfect for Young Learners
Focusing on Halloween in kindergarten offers a themed, exciting context for practicing math skills. Kids love the spooky decor, costumes, and festive atmosphere—making it easier to capture their attention.
Plus, Halloween math pages and activities provide opportunities for repetition and movement, which are crucial for mastering early math skills.
Getting Kids Up & Moving
I have a class of kindergarteners this year who are OBSESSED with “write the room” activities. Needless to say, they are also quite obsessed with Halloween. 😉
When you incorporate movement into your Halloween activities for kindergarten, you will boost engagement and retention. In other words…
“We like, got to play hide and seek with the cards AND you like, tricked us to count and write!”
-Henry, a very perceptive kindergartener
Why Repetition & Movement Matter for Early Math Skills
I think the idea of PLAY should be prominent in kindergarten. I mean, heck! We've already lost naps! We can at least keep play! Not only do five-year-olds prefer the idea of this, but it also:
- Reinforces learning with physical activity
- Repeats and reinforces skills
Movement helps solidify counting, addition, and number writing through kinesthetic learning.
Practicing addition, counting, and number writing through engaging activities helps young children develop strong foundational skills. Here’s why incorporating movement and repetition is key:
- Builds confidence as kids practice repeatedly in fun ways.
- Keeps children active and attentive during lessons.
- Reinforces skills through multisensory experiences.
#1 Fun Halloween Activity for Kindergarten
Write the Room
I will show you what comes with a Halloween math write-the-room activity, using counting and writing numbers 1-10.
But what if that is not the skill you are currently working in? NEVER FEAR! I've also got addition 1-10, and subtraction is on it's way!

Counting and Writing Numbers 1 – 10
WHY is it SO important for kindergarteners to practice recognizing, counting, and writing numbers 1 – 10?
- Develops Fine Motor Skills: Writing numbers helps children strengthen their hand muscles and improve hand-eye coordination.
- Builds Number Recognition: Practicing writing numbers reinforces students' ability to recognize and recall numbers 1-10.
- Enhances Memory and Retention: Repeatedly writing numbers helps solidify understanding and memory of number shapes and forms.
- Encourages Independence: Learning to write numbers fosters confidence and independence in completing math tasks and assignments.
I could go on and on…but I'll stop there and show you this write the room and how it works!
Getting kids moving around the room is always a win when it's paired with a game-like activity that involves several skills they need to master, with repetition being an integral part!
Each Set includes:
- Twenty cards
- 10-card recording sheet for students who are still emerging with the skill
- 20-card recording sheet for students who are successfully working on mastering the skill
- Numbers are at the top of each recording sheet to aid in correct formation, as well as a ten-frame for a visual aid

Instructions:
- Print recording sheets and make copies for students
- Print cards out – cardstock is suggested
- Cut the cards out
- Laminate for durability to use year after year
- Tape around the room
- Store in ziplock bags or clipped together
You could also print these cards and recording sheets to use as an activity for a center. Use in the same way, except that instead of the cards being all around the room, they are in a small container or ziplock bag.

You know how there are ALWAYS those kids who finish FAST and then distract other students or attach themselves to you telling you they are done? ;).
NO? Well, I seem to have this in my classroom EVERY year!
I've solved that issue!
I've created four BONUS brain-work Halloween math pages for fast-finishers and those who have mastered the skill. Just print and tell them ahead of time that when they finish their write the room activity – they have a choice of any of these fun Halloween math pages!
Answer keys are provided for recording sheets, as well as the bonus worksheets.
Halloween Math is a fabulous way to celebrate the season while helping your kindergarten students or homeschoolers develop essential math skills. From “write the room” activities to printable Halloween math pages, there are countless ways to make math fun and effective during this spooky season!
